Slow Moving Tsunamis: NRDC Evaluates Water-Related Issues in Cities
07/26/2011

What problems do your city face? Credit: NRDC
Do you dwell in a city? If so, do the words ‘rising sea levels,’ ‘storm surges,’ ‘drought,’ and ‘erosion,’ make you nervous? Well apparently they concern the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). In a report released earlier today, researchers from the NRDC identified the water-related issues that twelve cities around the U.S. face, including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Did yours make the cut?
Climate change will be to blame in the potential aqua-havoc that cities could experience, the researchers explained. Increased temperatures caused by global warming lead to an intensification of the water cycle, where air is continually being evaporated and precipitated. More intense evaporations lead to more intense droughts, and more intense precipitations lead to more intense downpours, which could result in flooding, as seen in the Mississippi River earlier this year.
Threats that cities could face include more severe storms and droughts, flooding, and rising sea levels, which the researchers likened to a slow moving tsunami during a media conference earlier today. For example, one challenge metropolitan areas in the western U.S. face is water management. Cities such as Seattle rely on snowmelt from the mountains during the spring for the summer water supply. However, higher winter temperatures can lead to less snow fall, and spring meltwater could disappear altogether, creating troubling problems for water guzzling cities such as
Although these problems are disconcerting, the report also goes over the various steps that cities have taken to tackle these challenges. For example,
But what if your city isn’t on this list? Or you don’t live in one? Fear not! The NRDC plans on releasing a state-by-state report later this year so stay tuned. And remember, whether you live in close-knit quarters or in the countryside, climate change is a global problem.

Meanwhile, the UN had
Meanwhile, the UN had allowed carbon trading markets run by corporations and politicians to trump 3rd world fresh water relief, starvation rescue and 3rd world education for just over 25 years of climate CONTROL instead of the obviously needed POPULATION control.
Actually the scientists “disagreed” with each other NOT agreed with each other because every single scientist had their own special, unique and different take on the Human produced CO2 vs. Earth’s produced CO2 issue. The only thing they all agreed on was that “yes” there “will” be effects. But ever since they found tropical fossils under the glacier and polar ice, all of the research has been on effects, not causes. The science of the CO2 theory assumed a worst case scenario and thus adopted climate change as a reality and assumed it was real. It was harmless academia twisted by political correctness, exaggerated to hysteria by media and then pandering politicians turned the science into a lab coat consultant’s dream.
These are all good enough reasons to turn this believer into a former believer of climate crisis. I now refuse to be a part any longer of a movement that so carelessly condemns billions to a death by CO2 with "catastrophic" climate change with such childish glee.
The new denier is anyone who still thinks there are enough voters who will vote yes to taxing the air to make the weather colder. Even Obama failed to mention the “crisis” in his Feb. State of the Union Address. Now only the media thinks it’s real. Do you see the countless thousands of consensus climate change scientists marching en mass? Don’t they have kids too? I'm not the only former believer urging prosecutors to lay criminal chargers to the leading scientists and news editors for knowingly inciting this needless panic of CO2 climate crisis. Now we can get back to being responsible environmentalists, civilized and progressive.
