Molly Tsongas’ TogetherGreen project , Tatzoo, is finally making its mark—literally. This week, one of her participants went under the gun, inked for life with a beautiful black spotted owl.
“The artist donated six hours…and did amazing work,” Tsongas says. “It was incredible and moving to see it come to life!”
We’ve followed the 30-year-old Tsongas’ project for the past year, starting when she received the TogetherGreen grant in June 2010 . Most recently, she was profiled in the July-August 2011 issue of Audubon .
And the newly tattooed environmentalist? It’s Ashlee Jensen, who raised awareness of her species by brewing a micro beer she called Spotted Owl Brew . Each bottle came with a hanging tag. On the front, a spotted owl and on the back, trivia questions about the bird. To sweeten the deal, she threw a Spotted Owl Brew Fest, during which she handed out free beer.
“I learned so much more about this species than I ever anticipated. It’s a really special feeling to know I’m so connected to this endangered species,” Jensen says. “I can be another voice for them.”
She adds, “I’m going to be talking about [the owl] for the rest of my life.”!--/end tags-->
