Another depressing day as I got an up-close look at the oil on Grand Isle, LA. This nightmare just gets worse and worse.

The oil on Grand Isle takes on many different forms, from fluid and runny to sticky and thick. It seems to be able to cling to anything. Photo by Kim Hubbard/Audubon

Up until Hurricane Katrina hit, I lived in this part of Louisiana. Originally, I am from Baton Rouge. I moved to Golden Meadow, LA (15 minutes from Grand Isle) to teach and it was a dream come true. I always wanted to live there ever since my parents took me as a child. I always thought I would go back after the hurricane, but I realize that I probably never will. I honestly don't think a recovery from this disaster is possible. What makes me so frustrated is that the government doesn't seem to care! "Oh, it's just Louisiana" seems to be the attitude. It has now been caught in the Loop current, will hit Florida and go up the Eastern coast of the US. Maybe then, people will do something about it. Nobody but the people of this area realize what a beautiful place Grand Isle was. Warm water, beautiful beaches, lovely people and animals galore. It is so peaceful. You couldn't help but relax while you were there, because everything and everyone is so laid back. I see these pictures and it makes me cry. I feel physically ill. Thank you BP for ruining one of the most beautiful places in this country. Well, at least I have my memories. BP can't ruin those. I think people should boycott them. I know I am.
Turn the Stone
Large Corp Like BP has faltered alot in last 7 yrs. Last recall near Dickinson TX a explosion in one of their plants took place.
Now if this was there personal problem of their livley hood being displaced, trust everyone's opionion in America right now this company would have shut the valve off over night to correct the problem..

Distance
Grand Isle is not 15 minutes from Golden Meadow, it's a good 35-45 minute drive, depending on traffic. Get behind a few trucks from Port Fourchon and it might even take you an hour.
