This story just keeps getting worse and worse. Yesterday we saw at least 25 oiled Pelicans in the Barataria Bay, along with oiled White Ibises and Laughing Gulls. Hard boom was being deployed, but it seemed too late, and futile.

The absorbent boom did not prevent the oil from reaching shore. Photo by Kim Hubbard/Audubon Magazine

I still can't believe the oil is still leaking
Really? We let people drill at 5,000 feet while not making them have any way to stop a leak at 5,000 feet? I still can't get over it.
I can not get over this
I can not get over this either. If they were smart enough to drill down 5,000 feet then they should of thought or have been smart enough to have a second plan when something went wrong. All they care about is money no one cared about what might happen to peoples life if this thing did not work as planned.
Well did anyone rescue the
Well did anyone rescue the pelicans....please say yes.
Rescue efforts
The authorities are aware of the birds' location. The really sad thing is that because they are at nest colonies and (mostly) capable of flight, it is difficult or impossible to rescue them without disturbing the whole colony, which could cause many eggs and babies to die. It's a very difficult, heartbreaking situation.
It's a great opportunity for engineers and inventors...
Picture methods of skimming.
I can see boats, perhaps tankers with a couple of tugboats at their sides, with 50 yards of surface skimmers on either side, and powerful vacuum hoses taking the oil down into the hold. Water could then be separated, and ran through filters and returned to the sea.
This situation needs to be handled
I have not heard one thing that the president did to help the states at all in this time of need. My family is lossing everything and no one can think of any way to stop this harmful chemical from coming in to our land. This is horrible. If we have to do all the work and deal with the issue at the same time what is the purpose of the govenment and higher power (Obama) this is rediculius!!!
What type of volunteer
What type of volunteer positions are available for wildlife cleanup? I have registered with the recommended site via the LA wildlife and fisheries web-site. However, they inilially sent me regular e-mail updates, those have ceased. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Animal rescue
I would like to spend a week helping to clean wildlife, fish dolphins and the many birds who are so badly in need for help so they don't suffer and die. I do not know who to contact. I hope someone reading this message can help me!
