Audubon Nominated for a National Magazine Award

We’re proud to announce that the American Society of Magazine Editors chose Audubon as a finalist for a 2010 National Magazine Award in the general excellence category.

“Magazines have never been better,” Sid Holt, Chief Executive of ASME, said in a press release. “The depth of reporting, quality of writing, superior storytelling and unparalleled service journalism in this year’s National Magazine Awards finalists showcase the editorial strengths of our medium.”

The other finalists in the category, which recognizes overall editorial achievement at six circulation levels, Audubon’s being 250,000 to 500,000, are The Atlantic, New York, Texas Monthly, and W. The last time Audubon was selected as a finalist was in 2007.

The National Magazine Awards, now in their 45th year, are sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and “have long been recognized as the preeminent awards for magazine journalism in the United States,” the announcement reads.

A total of 51 magazines will be honored at a gala on April 22nd, where the organization will announce winners from each category. Take a look at three memorable issues printed in Audubon last year to read about Pico Bonito National Park in Honduras, the future of green design, and prairie dogs’ plight, a sampling of the topics we covered in stories submitted for consideration.
